Unconditional Love

I attended a birthday party for a friend at a restaurant this week. There were approximately a dozen gal pals that showed up to celebrate.

We had a good time together with the help of some tasty wine, beer and appetizers. Even our personal bartender was exceptional by taking care of our every need!

I was talking to one of my hockey mom pals and in my true nature, was giving her some lip about taking her cell phone to church. I argued that you can give one hour to God without the handy dandy addictive cell phone.

She argued she needed it as her son broke his collarbone that Sunday and was home recuperating. The cell phone represented her modern day communication comfort blanket.

As we bantered back and forth, I knew I was about to get ‘hit’ with a good verbal sparing blow. I even said as I bent to shield my ears, “here it comes.” ( knowing full well I deserved it! )

Much to my surprise, my friend opted for the high road. She responded with

” I know you love me, unconditionally…”

There was a brief moment of shock that I did not get hit with a punch or a blow, but was greeted with a heart stopping compliment. Actually I do not even remember what she said after the word unconditionally. My mind was trying to absorb her words.

All I could think of were the power of her words.

My immediate reaction was to give her a kiss and tell her I loved her.
She certainly won that verbal sparing battle. Case closed, contest over, turn out the lights!

She was absolutely right, it did not matter what she did or said to me, I do love her unconditionally. What a powerful statement. A true friend indeed I do have.

Who are your unconditional friends? Can you say it does not matter because I love you unconditionally?

There is power in knowing your friends love you unconditionally.
