The Marines Go Marching In

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I was invited to attend a Marine reunion with my dad in Washington DC.

Now you may be thinking, big deal Colleen.

I thought that too a few years back and now I am attending my 4th Marine reunion! I have the time of my life at each one.

What is so special you ask?

I am spending time with Marines who served our country in the Korean War. These marines fought in Korea during the very cold month of December in 1950.

My dad like many of the Korean vets has frost bitten fingers, toes and is now labeled 100% disabled. Yet he will be the first to march in military celebrations or funerals.

I did not want to miss the Washington DC reunion and neither did 1000 other people in attendance!

The Marines and their families were treated like royalty. Evidenced by our daily police escorts to events, tours and Quantico.

A view of the police escort out our bus window. Believe it or not, the police escort stopped the Pentagon traffic for us daily!

We were special, just ask us!!

One of the highlights was the trip to Quantico to the Marine museum. The Korean War display was very impressive. Here is a video I took of the display.

First off, the temperature in the display area was cold. Symbolic of the cold temperatures in which the Korean War was fought. In this video you will hear the soldiers talking on the battlefield and hear bombs going off. Be sure to take note of the replicated snow.

Quite an impressive display. Worth your trip!

Next we were treated to a private invitation by the Commandant of the Marines at the barracks.

We had a very impressive 2 hour private sunset presentation by the marine drum and bugle corp, the marine marching band and the silent marine drill team.

Here is a video of the marine marching band playing for us!

This video is of Arlington cemetery in DC. The changing of the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier.

No trip to DC with the Marines would be complete without a stop at Iwo Jima!

Semper Fi Marines!

The trip was quite impressive and memorable. I am so happy the Korean War vets were given a wonderful tribute.

Hats off to all who fought in wars.

I made a very short 28 second video about our trip to DC. Will need to make a longer version.

Check it out here!
